My name is Mike McAdams and I am the owner of MT Designs and Construction. I wanted to take a little bit of time here to give a brief history of the business as an opportunity for everyone to get to know me a little bit. I have several years in the construction industry, including 2 years of a commercial plumbing apprenticeship with RK Mechanical, working at both the Union Station in downtown Denver and the new VA hospital in Aurora. I have worked as a skilled laborer, job lead, and foreman on several residential and commercial remodels, yet never felt like I was where I wanted to be in life. I eventually went back to welding, my first trade, but still wasn't happy with what I was doing. So I started looking for other routes in life to do something that i loved. I found that love and passion when i offered to get rid of the old faded and stained linoleum in my roommates kitchen and installed some laminate flooring. It wasn't even the installation that got to me. It was the fact that I was working for myself. I had no boss, no foreman running my work life and telling me what to do. So I decided to go further. I did some more small floors for other friends and family and very naturally fell into the roll of being my own boss and loved every minute of it. It was at this time that I met my wife, Tiffany, and we discussed the idea of putting everything into starting a business and being our own bosses. I got my LLC through the state and quit my welding job with a burning passion in my heart yet few projects ahead of me. I quickly learned the precarious nature of running your own business as I struggled to bid properly and manage my time according to each project and its scope and complexity. The first 5-6 months were extremely rough for us as we scrambled to find projects and make ends meet while starting the arduous process of building a collection of tools necessary to do the work. We made some good money and lost good money due to naivety. Several times we questioned the sanity of our decision to start up this business and whether or not we should continue. But we persevered. I refused to admit defeat and threw myself into research on how to run a small business. I spent countless hours staying up researching new methods for different projects, constantly expanding my knowledge so that each job got a little easier to complete in a timely manner. Any chance I got, I pursued every opportunity to learn something new, even if it meant I worked under another contractor as his laborer. In this process I met a man by the name of Brad Hogan, former Olympic skier and owner of HD Construction. Brad is third generation in his family for residential construction and possessed a wealth of knowledge and skills that I was very jealous of and so I threw myself into learning everything from him that I possibly could. This journey took me from the new parts of Aurora all the way to a condo in Vail, where we gutted the entire condo and transformed it into a 1.2 million dollar masterpiece. Every tile and every grain of wood polished my skills and taught me more, even when I wondered what else it could teach me. Brad eventually moved to California and I moved into my own projects and even spent a few months doing bathrooms for Dunrite Home Improvement while I continued to build a name for myself. I taught myself to build my own custom cabinets, built-ins, and fireplace surrounds. I learned to coax the natural beauty from woods like cedar and alder. I continued to perfect my tile techniques so that I could guarantee satisfaction for each and every client that hired me.

Over the past few years, I have worked way too much and way too hard. I have worked from the side streets off of Colfax all the way to a multi million dollar house overlooking the Coto de Casa gold course, in the same neighborhood that Kobe Bryant used to live in Orange County, California. In all the time I've spent doing this line of work, I discovered what made me truly love this business: the joy that my craftsmanship brings my clients. I am never happy with a project until my client is completely satisfied. That's why I'm in this business: so that I can bring joy to others with beauty from raw materials. I look forward to every person that I can work for and bring their dreams to life in their homes. I hope that every client I work for is left with the best satisfaction possible and that I positively affected their lives for the better.
